Threave through to final
By Jimmy Adams.

Threave reached the final of the League Cup with this first calss vitory over Nithsdale Wanderers at Sanquhar. They will now play Dalbeattie Star next Saturday at Castle Douglas.

Threave started brightly and it was no surprise when Paul Cooke opened the scoring in 11 mins after a free kick by Scott Wilby.

Threave continued to press and Jamie Struthers rattle the bar in 18 mins with a long range screamer.

Nithsdale got a lifeline in the 34th min with a rather dubious penalty after a Sam Warren tackle. Ex Rovers player Jeff Patterson sent keeper Parker the wrong way to bring the scores level.

Half Time Nithsdale 1 Threave 1

Threave regained their lead just after half time when Andrew Donley was brought down in the box and the ever reliable Scott Wilby scored from the spot.

Threave were now rampant and Sam Warren's free kick from 25 yards made it 3-1 after Danny Dunglinson was fouled going through. What followed was bazare as the whole 22 players were involved in handbags at 10 paces and after consulting his linesman Referee Stocks sent pff Nithsdale's Kennedy and Threave captain Sam Warren. Threave replaced Cook with Milligan near the end and Danny Dunglinson put the icing on the cake in the last min with a smart finish.

An excellent victory for Threave and we now look forward to the final.

Jimmy Adams reporting from Sanquhar.
